It is suggested that tanpura is derived from "tana" meaning a musical phrase, and "pura" meaning full or complete. This tanpura embodies its name and is specially designed and calibrated to accompany male classical vocals with a resonant drone. Naturally tuned to C#, the tanpura allows for a tuning shift of a single note in either direction.
