It is suggested that tanpura is derived from ‘tana’ meaning a musical phrase, and ‘pura’ meaning full or complete. This tanpura embodies its name and is specially designed and calibrated to accompany female classical vocals with a resonant drone. Naturally tuned to G, the tanpura allows for a tuning shift of a single note in either direction.
