Designed to mimic the actions of a squirrel, the kanton is a popular prop in competitive bhangra. The kanton is considered as a percussion instrument by some due to the clapping sound it produces when the rope is tugged, but it is most widely used as a dance prop. Each kanton measures approximately 30 inches in height and is tested to ensure all parts are functional. Besides its technical and artistic uses, the kanton is quite enjoyable to play with and a great addition to any collection of instruments from Punjab.
