A modified version of a regular household cooking tongs, the Chimta is a traditional percussion instrument also used as a prop for bhangra performances. Made of pure metal, chimtas require significant strength to maneuver.
Structurally it consists of a large metal prong folded in half and adorned with sets of cymbals. The extensions meet at a large metal ring that can either be used to carry the chimta or to strike against the prongs to create a metallic rhythmic sound. Despite its size, this compact chimta is similar in all aspects to the larger chimta but easier to carry and dance with due to its smaller size and lighter weight.
